"Since its establishment 20 years ago, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has become an influential international organization, playing an important role in ensuring regional security and stability, promoting regional economic cooperation and strengthening people to people and cultural exchanges," said tursunali kuzyev, a professor at the University of Journalism and mass communication of Uzbekistan, in an exclusive interview with Xinhua reporters in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. He believes that under the guidance of the "Shanghai spirit", SCO has shown strong vitality and broad development prospects.
From September 16 to 17, the 21st Meeting of the Council of heads of state of SCO member states was held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.
Kuzyev said that the "Shanghai spirit" advocated by SCO member states is the most important achievement of the organization since its establishment. Guided by the "Shanghai spirit" of "mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilizations and common development", SCO has attracted countries with different civilizations and social systems to join one after another, making valuable practical exploration for building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind. This is China's great contribution to the SCO and provides the SCO with advanced concepts beyond cold war thinking, zero sum game and civilization conflict.
Kuzyev believes that in the past 20 years, the SCO has resolutely cracked down on international terrorism, extremism, drug smuggling, transnational crime and cybercrime, responded to traditional and non-traditional security threats, and its fruitful work has been highly praised by the United Nations General Assembly.
Kuzyev believed that the SCO should play a more active role in international and regional affairs. The situation in Afghanistan is related to the security and stability of Central Asia and even the whole world. SCO should actively play the role of the "SCO Afghanistan contact group" and promote SCO to contribute more "SCO forces" to the stability and peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Kuzyev said that China's actions provide a strong driving force for the development of SCO. China's economy has maintained stable growth for decades and has become an important force in maintaining regional economic and social stability. Under the background of unilateralism, protectionism and the spread of COVID-19, the concept of cooperation, development and win win has been promoted by SCO, which has promoted regional economic and trade cooperation and social and economic development of all countries. All SCO member states look forward to further strengthening cooperation in epidemic prevention and control, economic and trade investment, poverty reduction and development in the post epidemic era, so as to inject strong impetus into the development and revitalization of regional countries.
Speaking of the role of Ukraine China relations in promoting the development of the SCO, Cruz Jef said that since the beginning of the COVID-19, Ukraine has supported and helped each other, and pragmatic cooperation has continued to move forward, which has played a positive role in promoting the recovery and development of the two countries and promoted close cooperation within the organization. As one of the founding countries of the SCO, Uzbekistan will do its best to promote the development and growth of the organization in the future.
Looking ahead to the future development of the SCO, Cruz Jef said that in the context of the great changes in the world in the past hundred years and the background of COVID-19's superposition, the 2021 Dushanbe summit has a special bearing on the past and future.
