Original title: China spoke at the Human Rights Council on behalf of many countries: deeply concerned about the human rights issue in the United States
On September 14, the 48th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held a dialogue with the High Commissioner for human rights. Minister Jiang Duan of the permanent mission of China to Geneva made a joint statement on behalf of a group of countries, expressing deep concern about the serious human rights problems in the United States.
The statement published on the website of the permanent mission of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland is as follows:
Madam President
I have the honour to speak on behalf of a group of countries. We are deeply concerned about the continuing human rights problems in the United States. The United States ignores people's right to life and health. It has the most advanced medical equipment and technology in the world, but it has become the country with the largest number of infections and deaths in the world. Instead of fighting the epidemic with all its strength, the U.S. government is keen on political manipulation of issues such as virus traceability, trying to throw the pot on other countries and shirk its responsibility for the failure of fighting the epidemic.
Systematic racism and racial discrimination have existed for a long time in the United States, and ethnic minorities such as African Americans, Asian Americans and Muslims continue to suffer discrimination and harm. Its root cause is the criminal slave trade and slavery in American history. The United States committed genocide against Indians in the past, and is still violating Indian rights. The United States has arbitrarily imprisoned innocent immigrants for a long time, forced migrant children to separate from their parents, and led to the breakdown of countless immigrant families. The United States is also a disaster area for human trafficking and forced labor.
The United States is novel coronavirus pneumonia, under the banner of democracy and human rights, spreading lies and false information, making powerful power politics, interfering in internal affairs of other countries, forcing its own values on others, and implementing unilateral coercive measures at every turn, seriously violating the human rights of people in the countries concerned, including obstructing many countries from obtaining new drugs and vaccines during the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia. The war launched by the United States has caused a large number of civilian casualties and displacement in other countries.
Major changes in the situation in Afghanistan once again show that military intervention and power politics are unpopular. Imposing American "democracy" on others will only bring chaos and turbulence and is doomed to failure. Although the US military has withdrawn from Afghanistan, the crimes of killing civilians in Afghanistan by the US military and its allies over the past 20 years must be investigated and the perpetrators must be brought to justice.
We urge the United States to seriously reflect on and correct its mistakes, take practical actions to solve its serious human rights problems, stop forcibly promoting its ideology and values, stop suppressing and punishing other countries under the pretext of human rights, and stop military interference in other countries. We call on the Human Rights Council and the High Commissioner for human rights to continue to pay attention to human rights issues in the United States and urge the United States to effectively implement its international human rights obligations.
Thank you, Madam President.
